What is it?

  • Adapting homework to meet all/different students' needs

How do you create/do it?

  • Ask yourself:
    • What skill is being practiced?
    • What knowledge and skills are needed?
    • Is there a clear purpose and direction?
    • Is it time appropriate?
  • Make sure you accommodate for special needs students
  • In order to set students up for success, do the following:
    • Teach interdependence/independence learning skills
    • Teach time management
    • Teach students to ask for help - this will clue the teacher in to possibilities for necessary accommodations
  • Ensure home/school connection so that there is a wealth of support for each student
    • Start homework in school so that the student isn't solely relying on home support to complete assignments
  • Make sure environment is suitable for special needs students
    • Think about the environment, and the learner in that environment
  • Make sure teacher communicates expectations clearly!

What are some examples/reminders?

  • Put a student through the environmental inventory process
    • Evaluates the student's ability to work successfully in different environment.
      • You can then determine if accommodations are necessary
